The Magnetic Particle Method/Process in its simplest form is carried out by Magnetising the component and applying Iron Particles carried by a liquid to the surface under test. Inspection follows when indications of flaws/discontinuities are revealed by particles gathering around flux magnetic leakage caused by a magnetic break in the material.
The main limiting factor with Magnetic Testing (MT), is that the material must be a Ferro-Magnetic type i.e. High Tensile Steels, Carbon Steels and some Stainless Steels to name a few. Materials other than the above require an alternative method of testing i.e. penetrant. After testing parts are required to be demagnetised

Magnetic testing using Fluorescent Particles is very sensitive and capable of revealing non magnetic inclusion in steels which cannot be seen by the naked eye. Flaws which are surface and slightly sub-surface.
At AEP the following Magnetic Techniques are available: Current Flow, Circular Magnetism applied by Threader Bars, Rigid Coil , Magnetic Flow (applied by Electro-magnetic yoke) and other techniques applied by the use of Flexible Coils.
